Ask Dr. Joy is a teen-safe, AI-powered period and puberty support tool that helps girls get private, age-appropriate, judgment-free answers to questions they may feel too shy, scared, or embarrassed to ask out loud. Available across the web, WhatsApp, Messenger, and low-connectivity settings, it is built to meet girls where they are with trusted guidance on periods, puberty, body changes, and growing up.

Unlike a generic chatbot, Ask Dr. Joy is designed specifically for real-world use in schools, NGOs, and underserved communities. It combines warm, culturally sensitive support with strong safety guardrails, multilingual access, and offline functionality, making it easier for girls to get reliable information even when internet access is limited or trusted adults are not easily available.

Ask Dr. Joy does not try to replace doctors, parents, or teachers. Instead, it fills an important gap by offering a safe first layer of support: one that helps girls understand what is normal, know when to seek help, and feel less alone in their journey.

Founder’s Note

Why Ask Dr. Joy Was Created

Chika Nwaogu

Hi guys!

I am Chika Nwaogu, the founder of PadHer. In 2021, when I founded PadHer, I noticed something important during our workshops. Many girls had questions about their bodies, periods, puberty, and growing up, but they often felt too embarrassed to ask them out loud. Some were worried they would be judged, laughed at, or that their questions might sound “silly.”

But the truth is, no question about your body or your health is silly. That’s why I created Ask Dr. Joy, with input from medical practitioners and experts in girls’ health and education.

Ask Dr. Joy gives girls a safe, private space to ask any question they have about periods, puberty, body changes, relationships, and growing up, without fear of embarrassment or judgment. My hope is that every girl can get the answers she needs, feel confident about her body, and know that she is not alone.
